The noun feeder  in “Build a Bird Feeder” was formed by adding  –er  to the verb feed. Feed  means “to give food.”  Feeder  means “a container that gives food.” VERB SUFFIX NOUN feed + er = feeder drive + er = driver ü    The er is just added to some words. farm farmer ü    If the word ends in e, drop the final e before adding er. safe safer ü    If a word has one syllable or one vowel, double the final consonant. run runner
